Blog Journal 6
I visited the site of a former high school chemistry and
international relations teacher of mine, Mr. Schmidt of Florida Southwestern
Collegiate High School-Charlotte. On the front page of his site, you can find
the clubs he sponsors, a brief intro, and links to all his courses taught. The
links to the units of chemistry are password protected, but the International
Relations site is available. From there, you can see the syllabus, textbook,
links to news sources, and several general links.
I would use technology to further my own understanding and
learning within the classroom. As mentioned in the podcast, I would attend
webinars and conferences to further my own knowledge. Using these webinars, I
can find new technologies as they develop to use in the classroom. Conferences,
as well, can be used to communicate with other teachers and relay effective technologies
and tactics in the classroom.
After visiting the Technology Sandbox, I think that I would
apply small tablets in my classroom. The tablets can be loaded with educational
games that can engage students at lower education levels. Furthermore, they can
be used at higher levels for research while restricting access to other sites. Students
can have a useful tool within the classroom without losing concentration. Potentially,
I would like to include Virtual Reality, but it seems like the teaching
potential might be outweighed by the difficulties around it. VR can be
distracting and cause conflict in the classroom, so perhaps it doesn’t belong
within the classroom.
